Anatomical Acupuncture at CURAVITA

At CURAVITA, we offer anatomical acupuncture as a standalone therapy or in combination with manual therapy, exercise, and education. During your initial assessment, our physiotherapist will evaluate whether you can benefit from anatomical acupuncture.

Treatment Frequency and Expectations

The number of acupuncture sessions required varies depending on your condition. Some patients may find relief after just a few treatments, while more complex or longstanding conditions may require one or two sessions per week over several weeks, with treatments tapering off as improvement is achieved.

Understanding Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a therapeutic technique designed to encourage natural healing, reduce pain, and improve function in affected areas. Unlike dry needling, where needles are inserted into tight muscle knots, acupuncture uses very fine needles inserted at specific points on the body.

From a Western medical perspective, acupuncture stimulates the nervous system and promotes the release of natural chemicals like endorphins and anti-inflammatory substances, which help relieve pain, stimulate healing, and enhance physical and emotional health. The procedure involves no injections and typically causes minimal discomfort. When applied with knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, physiotherapists can effectively use acupuncture to treat a range of painful conditions.

Conditions That Can Benefit from Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been shown to be effective in treating various conditions, including:

  • Neck pain and headaches
  • Tendinopathies
  • Shoulder injuries
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Lower back pain
  • Neuropathy
Important Considerations

Mild bruising and soreness are common after treatment. However, acupuncture is not recommended for pregnant women. If you are immunocompromised or taking blood thinner medication, you may be at higher risk for adverse effects.
