Ottawa in the Summer
After what was definitely the longest winter known to mankind, you probably want to soak in as much sun as possible. Taking your exercise outside comes with many benefits for your mind and body. Here are our top 5 favourite outdoor activities to help you make the most out of summer in Ottawa and help you boost your vitamin D:
1. Summer rentals at Dow’s Lake
Pedal boat, canoe, or kayak your way out of Dow’s Lake and into the Rideau Canal. Experience the city from a different vantage point while getting a great cardiovascular and upper body workout.
2. Hiking at Gatineau Park
There’s a wide range of activities to do on the other side of the Ontario-Quebec border. Just 15 minutes away from downtown Ottawa, Gatineau Park is a nature enthusiast’s paradise. Hike, swim, or kayak in one of the most biodiverse parks in the country!
3. Sunday Bikedays
Every Sunday from 9 am to 1 pm, the National Capital Commission closes down Ottawa’s most scenic parkways for cyclists, runners, and pedestrians to explore Ottawa without having to worry about cars and traffic. Don’t have a bike? Rentals are also made available!
4. Parliament Hill Yoga
Every Wednesday at noon, hundreds of yogis flock from all over the city for a midday namaste at Parliament Hill. Bring your own mat, water bottle, and sunscreen, and get ready to experience yoga like never before! Also this year, you can meditate on the Hill every Tuesday at lunch.
5. Mer Bleue Bog
Located in Ottawa’s east end, the Mer Bleue Bog is a nearly 8000-year-old conservation area. Named after the early morning mist that makes the bog look like a blue sea, you can explore over 20 kilometers of scenic trails, and a boardwalk for easy walking!
Don’t forget… only 139 days left until winter! Enjoy it while it lasts!
