Meet Dr. Melissa Baird, chiropractor.
I’m a chiropractor at Curavita – Glebe. I joined the team in 2010 after graduating from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA. I have been responsible for social media at our Glebe location, have created the digital messenger for the reception area for a number of years before Dr. Kait Graham at our Byward location took over the task and I write our quarterly newsletter “Health Matters”. I contribute to our weekly clinic blog and write articles for the Glebe Report and OSCAR. I also provide mentorship to new chiropractors and newly registered massage therapists joining our team.
What I like the best about working at Curavita are the amazing patients! It’s great to work with people who are so engaged in their own health. I love the team approach of our clinic. It’s part of the reason I decided to join the clinic. With having multiple people of different backgrounds, we are able to use our combined knowledge for the betterment of patients. Our staff are fantastic and keep everything running smoothly. There is so much that they do behind the scenes that we all truly benefit from. It’s a blessing to have such a strong, supportive team. I also love the location. Ottawa and the Glebe is a great place to practice. It’s a very active city which I love.
Outside of work, I’m spending a lot of time with my daughter. I’m a new mom to Rosalie who made her entrance on May 27th, 2019. Our furbaby, Kropek, has adapted well to a little sister. We spent parental leave travelling to Newfoundland (where I’m from), Connecticut (where my husband is from) and to PEI for a vacation with friends. Since being back in Ottawa, we have been trying to keep as active as possible with Fit Mom + Baby, Fitness with Jules, Mom and Baby On The Move and Swimming Lessons. We just started going to sign language with Mellow Baby and have been learning a little french with 123 Petits Pas.
I’ve been actively involved in the WBN in the past and have sat on the BYAs Nominations Committee and have previously chaired the committee. I’ve been a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity since 2014. I’ve sat on and chaired the Family Selection Committee, have been part of the Ambassador Program and am currently part of the Leadership Team for Women Build 2019. While on parental leave, I was fortunate to spend a day on a Habitat Build site. Our team “No Studs Allowed” raised over $5000 for Habitat and helped build a home for a well-deserving family. I’ve also been active within the business community as part of the Ottawa Board of Trade (formerly the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce) acting as an ambassador previously.
I also love to travel, do anything in the water (especially kayaking and stand up paddleboarding), hiking, cooking and baking. My most recent trips have been to Thailand and to Poland which were both amazing. I also like to paint using oils. I loved scuba diving while I lived out East but haven’t done it in years.
