Collaborative Healthcare

At CURAVITA, we have been operating under a collaborative care model since the early years of the clinic. Our chiropractors and registered massage therapists have been working hand in hand to provide the best possible care for our patients. With the upcoming addition of physiotherapy to our scope of services, we will be taking our model one step further making it even more convenient for patients to access the care they need in the most efficient way possible. The new design of our Glebe location will also add to this as it has been specifically planned to facilitate communication and teamwork among our chiropractors, physiotherapists, and registered massage therapists.

Did you know our collaboration extends beyond the walls of the clinic? We actively engage key members of your health team whenever possible. That’s why we encourage our patients to request MD reports after the initial visit with one of our chiropractors. An MD report is a letter faxed to your family physician summarizing key findings from the initial exam, and how we intend to help you reach your healthcare and wellness goals. We also publish and distribute ChiroPost, a quarterly newsletter for local family physicians, updating them on the most current musculoskeletal and chiropractic research.

Collaborative care is more than just teamwork among healthcare professionals. It includes you, the patient, too! You become a partner in your care and take an active role in improving your health. That is why, at the Report of Findings stage with every chiropractic patient, our chiropractors take the time to explain the diagnosis and answer your questions. When appropriate, you will be given supportive home-based exercise recommendations to complement the care you receive in the clinic.

The landscape of healthcare has evolved over the years and multidisciplinary models such as ours will become more prevalent. Collaborative care is at the heart of patient-centered care and is based on the old adage, “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts”. It acknowledges that no one health professional has all the answers, and allows each practitioner to practice according to their strengths. It also builds mutual respect and an understanding of each others’ scope of practice. Removing barriers for patient access to care results in better patient outcomes. With collaborative care, everyone wins!
